Burstable Bandwidth

If you need extra bandwidth available at your fingertips, our “Burstable Bandwidth” solution gives you constant access to higher bandwidths.

Burstable Bandwidth allows your company to “reserve” a higher level of bandwidth than you might normally use. You pay a monthly recurring fee for a base level of bandwidth, and can then “burst” to the higher bandwidth at any time, without having to call in to have your bandwidth adjusted. At the end of the month, your company is charged your base monthly recurring costs, and a usage rate fee for the “burstable” bandwidth used during the month.

How The Usage Rate Is Determined

Your company's bandwidth usage rate is measured every five minutes, 24 hours a day, for each day of the month. Both sent and received traffic are monitored, the higher of the two will be recorded. At the end of the month, each five-minute interval is graphed, from the highest to the lowest bandwidth usage. The highest 5% of these five-minute intervals is discarded. The bandwidth at the very next five-minute interval becomes the bandwidth level at which your account will be charged.

If your company’s bandwidth usage varies widely from month to month and cannot be serviced through a dedicated bandwidth service, you may want to consider going with a burstable bandwidth option.
